The role of the FA has become a very important as the FA is a vital link between the time the incident occurs and the time the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) arrive at the scene.

The responsibility of the FA is to:

• Assess the situation
• Identify the problem / condition
• Give immediate, appropriate and adequate treatment
• Arrange transport.

The FA's responsibility ends once the patient is handed over to higher qualified help with a full report (history).
