First aid is the immediate skilled treatment of a person (s) at the scene of an injury or illness using available materials and resources available. It is the temporary assistance that is rendered until competent medical care, if required, arrives and takes over.

By applying first aid you are trying to achieve the following:

  • Preservation of life (i.e. C.P.R.)
  • Preventing the injury / illness from worsening
  • Promoting the speedy recovery of the patient
  • Pain reduction.
